Charlotte sipped her martini, her leg twitching up and down as Helen and Prudence rated the guys in the club around them. They’d spent the last hour trying to find a suitable one for Charlotte to basically throw herself at and see what happened.

“What about him?” Helen asked as she took another shot of tequila.

“No, too short, and look at that watch. It’s gotta be fake.”

“Fine, fine—what about him?”

Charlotte choked on her drink as she followed her friend’s pointing finger. “He’s wearing makeup. I can see it from here! No, absolutely not.”

“You can’t be so picky,” Helen muttered as she narrowed her gaze, looking for her next possible target. “I mean, really, just find a guy who’s hot and go with it.”

But Charlotte’s stomach had spent the last hour getting more and more tangled up as she thought about what tonight might bring. Going home with a strange man was not exactly on top of her list of things to do. That, and her purse kept vibrating. She’d felt guilty after turning it off and had turned it back on so her mother’s only line of communication to yell at her through was open. Maybe she’d get it all out of her system by the time Charlotte got home.

“Oh my God, guys, what was I thinking?” she muttered, too nervous to think straight. “I can’t do this. I have to get home before my mom sends out a damn search party.”

“No, you are not leaving,” Helen said as she grabbed Charlotte’s arm.

“Come on, stay a little longer. We’ll dance, have some shots, and then we’ll leave.” Prudence pleaded, but Charlotte wasn’t having it. She got up from her stool, paid her tab, and turned around to hurry out the door when she ran smack into six feet of muscle. Something icy cold spilled down the front of her dress and a man cursed.

“Damn it,” he snapped as Charlotte looked into very light green eyes which narrowed at her.

“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry,” she muttered and grabbed a handful of napkins from the bar.

“What are you doing?” he asked and took them from her. “You got more on you than me.”

She stared at him like an open-mouthed fish as he dabbed her dress and upper chest, very close to her breasts that suddenly felt tight and swollen at his touch. A hot guy was touching her. Standing close to her. She glanced up again at his face and started to laugh nervously.

“Are you sure you’re all right?” he asked when he finished and had tossed the napkins back on the bar.

“I’m fine. I’m just having a weird night.”

He shrugged and stared into his empty glass. “Weird night is better than a bad one, I suppose.”

“Oh, let me get you another whiskey.” She waved for the bartender and noticed her hand was shaking. She immediately pulled it down and caught a glimpse of her friends watching her intently. Helen raised her glass in a toast as Prudence pursed her lips in a kissing motion.
